Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers Transform a Smile

Porcelain veneers are a wonderful option for patients who wish to conceal cosmetic flaws in their smiles. As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Sood offers a variety of treatments to brighten, straighten, and reshape imperfect teeth. However, porcelain veneers accomplishes all of these improvements with a single treatment.

Please contact our cosmetic dentistry practice today for further information about porcelain veneers.

About Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin, durable restorations that are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. Veneers are usually placed on the top six to eight teeth. Sometimes, however, they are also placed on the bottom teeth.

Our veneers are crafted in a dental laboratory by an experienced ceramist. The veneers comprise thin layers of semi-translucent ceramic. The shade of ceramic is selected so that the veneers will blend with surrounding teeth. Each veneer is shaped, sculpted, and textured by hand to look natural in the patient's mouth.

What to Expect at Your Appointments

The process of getting veneers begins with a consultative appointment. At this visit, Dr. Sood will examine your mouth, take x-rays if necessary, and discuss your “ideal” smile. She’ll want to know what appeals to you. For instance, how bright do you want your teeth: natural white or beauty pageant white? Do you prefer smiles where the front two teeth are a bit longer than neighboring teeth, or do you like a uniform line across the bottom of front teeth? If you are uncertain of your preferences, start looking through magazines or photos on the web to decide what appeals most to you. Dr. Sood will take your preferences into account, but also factor in your existing dentition and facial features so that your veneers look natural, as well as gorgeous.

After you and the dentist decide upon a plan for the shape and color of your new smile, Dr. Sood will prepare your teeth for the veneers and take an impression for the dental lab. Tooth preparation involves eliminating a bit of topical enamel to make room for the veneers. We take an impression to use as a guide, so that your restorations will fit well with existing teeth. By wearing temporary veneers, you’ll begin to learn how the final veneers will feel, once in place. Some patients have a short adjustment period in which they become accustomed to making sounds with their reshaped front teeth.

Once the lab delivers your final restorations to us, you’ll attend a final appointment. At this visit, Dr. Sood will replace the temporary veneers with your permanent veneers. She’ll apply a strong adhesive, then secure each veneer in place before checking your bite. A few minor adjustments may be necessary to ensure that your upper and lower teeth fit together perfectly with the new restorations. Once optimal function is achieved, you will be free to leave our office with your gorgeous, new smile to show off to the world.

How to Care for Veneers

Because veneers are fixed, permanent restorations, you’ll care for them as you do your natural teeth. Brush morning and evening, floss once a day, and visit Dr. Sood for checkups and cleanings twice a year. As with natural teeth, avoid chewing on hard objects, like ice or metal. If you notice anything unusual in your mouth at any time, schedule an appointment. With proper care and regular professional visits, your veneers can last up to 20 years or longer.
