Dentures & Partial Dentures

Dentures are one of the most common choices for restoring tooth loss. Tooth loss destroys the functionality of your mouth and remaining teeth, making it difficult to eat and speak, but it can also adversely affect your confidence and self-esteem. If you have lost multiple teeth, dentures can restore the natural function and appearance of your smile. At Vandana Sood, DMD, we provide comfortable, high quality dentures.

About Dentures

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that sit snugly over the top of the gums, filling the gap left by extracted or lost teeth.

They can be made of several synthetic materials including acrylic, metal and nylon. Dentures are available either as a full denture, which replaces all of your upper or lower teeth, or a part denture - which replaces just a few missing teeth on either the upper or lower jaw.

What are the Benefits of Dentures?

By far the biggest benefit of dentures is that they will provide you with a full set of fully-functioning teeth. There is also a huge cosmetic benefit, as you will no longer have unsightly gaps within your teeth, giving you a natural-looking smile.

This means that you will be able to eat, drink, speak and laugh without feeling like you are drawing attention to your mouth. If your tooth loss has caused your cheeks to appear sunken, then a set of dentures can also help to plump your face out again, giving you a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Dentures?

Dentures are a low-risk solution that are suitable for the majority of patients who have experienced tooth loss. However, to accurately assess your candidacy for any dental treatment, including dentures, you will need to attend a consultation appointment with Dr. Sood.

During this appointment, she will perform a thorough examination of your tooth, and discuss your desires and goals for the procedure. Using this information, it will be possible for Dr. Sood to determine if dentures are the most suitable solution to improve the function and appearance of your teeth.

Creating Dentures

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to dentures. In order to create the most natural and comfortable appearance for your teeth, each set of dentures is custom-created to meet the needs of each individual patient.

To do this, Dr. Sood will take comprehensive impressions of the inside of your mouth, including any remaining teeth. These will be sent to the laboratory where technicians will create your finished dentures.

Once they are ready, you will attend an appointment with Dr. Sood where she will show you how to put them into place, and what you need to do to care for them.

Caring for Your Dentures

Dentures should last a reasonable amount of time, although they usually require some maintenance due to normal wear and tear.

Cleaning your dentures is a vital part of maintaining good oral hygiene. You will need to brush them daily to remove any food deposits and plaque, and to prevent them from becoming stained. Dr. Sood may recommend that they are also soaked overnight in a specialized cleaning solution.

Dentures can be brittle and may break if dropped, so case is recommended and many people choose to clean them over a sink filled with water, or a folded towel.

You should also ensure that you continue to brush and floss any natural teeth you have remaining, and attend your regularly schedule appointments with Dr. Sood and the team.
